applied perception
Perception is the lens with which we see the world. Introspective self study allows you to get curious about your own habits and preferences. The habits we are not cognizant of often have greatest pull. During meditation, we have a chance to observe the mind to understand our biases.
As designers, we shape spaces for others. If I am unaware of how I see the world, my biases will be unwittingly embedded in what i create.
We wonβt get it right all the time, but we can treat our work as craft. And get better through refinement.
A helpful by-product of observing my mind: I pay more attention to nuances when observing the world. This, along with my background in development, bolsters my creativity when solving challenging problems.
what is it
Tablet devices reorient the picture based on a gyroscope that indicates which direction is up. But what if the tablet is on a level surface? I generally pick up the tablet and shake it like an etch-a-sketch while waiting for the gyroscope to register an orientation switch. This patent describes a method of using gesture to unlock and reorient a device, making it possible to reorient on a level surface with one motion.
so what
I like to think this is a result of observation leading to innovation π
